Mature trees are part of what makes San Gabriel Valley neighborhoods nice. They are also why some pools never look clean for long.
Leaves, blossoms, seed pods, and pollen all end up in the water. They sink, stain, clog the baskets, and use up chlorine as they break down.
A full skimmer or pump basket starves the pump of water. Empty baskets often during heavy leaf drop. A leaf canister on the cleaner hose catches debris before it reaches the pump.
Leaves on the surface are easy. Leaves on the floor stain the plaster and feed algae. Net the surface regularly and brush the floor where leaves collect.
Spring pollen forms a yellow film on the surface and around the tile line. It skims off and doesn't cling to walls. Yellow dust that clings to shady walls and comes back after brushing is more likely mustard algae, which needs a different fix. Bring a sample and we'll help you tell them apart.
Organic debris uses up chlorine and loads the filter, so tree-heavy pools usually need more of both. Weekly service covers netting, baskets, and brushing every visit and keeps the chemistry on track.
